The Moy estuary sea trout season opened last Thursday April 17th with blue skies and a soft wind from the south. As the Moy is one of the few rivers in Ireland flowing from south to north a south wind is perfect. Best conditions for estuary fishing is a calm warm bright day, the opposite to fresh water fishing. Fishing Mackerel strip with a 6lb line and size 8 hook I had my first fish within a few minutes. What a delight when you strike and feel the resistance… the bend on the rod, the drag on the reel going zzzzzzing and the satisfaction of seeing him in the net. If I ever lose that feeling I will give up fishing.
About 80% of my clients are regulars so with each new season it’s like meeting old friends again.
