The Moy Estuary is a little piece of heaven I share with friends and guests. It’s got everything, scenery, a wonderful variety of bird life, golden beaches, a beautiful island and above all else, healthy runs of sea trout.
The Moy Estuary begins at the Quay, Ballina, Co. Mayo and runs for five miles before entering into Killala Bay.
It is narrow and lined with stone walls for about three and a half miles before opening out into a huge basin.
It then narrows again between Bartra Island and Enniscrone Beach.
The estuary offers stunning views of a castle ruin, Rosserk Abbey and Moyne Abbey.
Rosserk Friary is one of the finest and best preserved of the Franciscan Friaries in Ireland.
